Born
in Hong Kong, Susur Lee, a four-star chef, worked at the most prestigious
European kitchens
in Hong Kong from an early age. He opened Lotus, a 35 boutique-style
restaurant in Toronto in 1987. After ten successful years of positive accolades at
Lotus, Susur moved to Singapore and consulted under the Ton Lok group as a culinary consultant to 21 classical Chinese restaurants.
He returned to Toronto in August 2000 and opened "Susur."
His new restaurant "Lee" opened in September 2004.
Lee is now based in New York City as the head
chef of the Shang
Restaurant at the new Thompson LES Hotel.
Susur Lee has built an international reputation with his
groundbreaking cuisine and has become famous for Asian influenced dishes. "Zagat" has called him “dazzling” and “a culinary genius”
"Food & Wine" named Susur one of its “ top ten chefs in the world"
"Saveur Magazine" named Susur “ Toronto's most adventurous chef”
and placed him in the top 50 of the magazine's Top 100 Best Things
